Design Concepts and Referencing

Process and Design

Excel Tooling’s understanding of the core concepts of tooling design and effectively referencing industry standards and best practices are essential for creating tools that are precise, cost-effective, and safe. These practices contribute to the success of manufacturing processes and the quality of the final products.

The individual needs and preferences of our diverse customer base is of the utmost importance to us. In order to fulfill these sometimes unique needs, we at Excel Tooling use a variety of design software packages. These include:

•  Catia
•  Unigraphics NX
•  Vero
•  Autodesk Inventor Series

The translation of CAD data into various formats such as Parasolids, Catia, IGES, STEP and SAT is possible. Three dimensional design concepts facilitate the formulation of F.M.E.A and also provides the customer with a visual reference, creating a platform from which changes and customer preferences can be incorporated into the design before the final product is manufactured.

Measuring Process & Service

Tooling Metrology

At Excel Tooling precision is paramount. Ensuring that each component, no matter how small or intricate, meets exact specifications is crucial for quality and safety. This is where our dedication to Tooling Metrology comes into play.

One of Excel Toolings core competencies is high precision 3D measuring of mechanical parts and tools. To verify the in-process quality we are using high accuracy measuring equipment. This equipment can also be used for reverse engineering and production parts verification.

Our current measuring equipment includes:

•  Zeiss Contura G2, with VAST RDS probe. The VAST scanning technology enables form inspections at high speed with precision measuring results.
•  Zeiss Carmet. The horizontal-arm measuring machine meets all of the demands of a fully automated coordinate measuring machine for the dimensional control of reshaped and originally shaped components.
•  Faro Arm Platinum Series. These portable measuring arms allow for onsite installation and set-up. Parts and tools with greater tolerances can be measured with this type of equipment

Tooling Manufacture Process

Manufacture Process

Automotive and other industries rely heavily on precise tooling to produce high-quality components. Excel Tooling makes use of specialised equipment and machinery ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of tooling.

Excel Tooling manufactures tools, jigs, dies, fixtures and special purpose machinery for various automotive sectors. CNC milling and turning facilities are available, allowing for the production of high volume parts. For the manufacture of complex parts and tools, five axis machining is used.  All manufacturing facilities are networked to CAD/CAM stations, allowing for offline programming and simulation.

Our manufacturing division is capable of reverse engineering. Surfaces are digitized or scanned and CAD data is created using the latest software. This reconstructed data can then be used to develop a machining program. An identical part from the original can then be manufactured.
